What my puppy has taught me about being a mom: Sleep, showers, and eating are not basic human rights. They are luxuries. You will never be on time. Ever. Trying to get in the car is like packing for a 3 day expedtition. If it's your favorite anything, it somehow belongs to them suddenly. Everyone on the road is trying to hit you and is dangerous. Regardless of deep previous bonds, your new best friend is your babysitter. There is no such thing as a sick day; you just get dressed and function and that's just the way it is. Poop = no big deal. Bowls of water or food make great hats. There are more toys that squeak and spin than there are places to step. God bless Drive Thrus. And most important... I never knew I could love something so tiny so much! Suddenly everything I accomplished prior to being a mom just doesn't hold a candle to holding my baby.
